Zack Ryder's battle cry--"Woo Woo Woo"--could conceivably offend pro wrestling purists who recognize that chant as belonging to one "Nature Boy" Ric Flair.
"It's a little different, it's my own little flavor," counters Ryder. And there you have the dilemma that faces today's WWE Superstars: Can you capture what made past competitors iconic without coming off as a cheap facsimile? To many the jury is still out on Merrick native Ryder, one of 30 entrants in Jan. 31's Royal Rumble (8 p.m., pay-per-view). But for a guy who endured countless snide remarks in the hallways of Calhoun High School for wearing wrestling T-shirts, holding up a WWE Tag Team Championship belt less than five years later and six miles away gives him the right to declare victory. That magic moment came in July of 2008, when he teamed with Glen Cove native Curt Hawkins at Nassau Coliseum during The Great American Bash. His family was there, along with the friends he played wrestling video games with--the ones who didn't smirk when he entered Deer Park's New York Wrestling Connection in 2004 to train for the dream. (You can still go to YouTube and watch Ryder being gently admonished by announcer Joey Styles after his suggestive comment about enjoying the title belt with his girlfriend.) For the wrestling business it was a meteoric rise, albeit one that came with a catch. Ryder and Hawkins got their big break in 2007 as doppelgängers/partners-in-crime for multi-time world champion Edge. It allowed the pair to jump into main-event feuds against legends they were barely old enough to drink a beer with. But it was also a complimentary role with a limited shelf life. "I knew eventually I would have to create a fresh start, but at the time I was able to wrestle guys like the Undertaker, Shawn Michaels, Ric Flair, and that was not even two years into [my career in] WWE," says Ryder, who is still amazed that he faced guys whose action figures once adorned his room. "So the guys I got to wrestle in such a short period of time, it was definitely worth it. [And] to be with Edge, who was our leader, and guided us not only in the ring, but backstage, and life on the road and everything like that... I wouldn't trade it for the world." He's now less than a year into his singles career, sporting the first one-legged tights in an athletic arena since Florence Griffith-Joyner, aka Flo-Jo, went there more than two decades ago. Throw in a cocky, ladies man persona that could have him moonlighting as an extra on Jersey Shore, and Ryder is one of the mainstays of ECW (Syfy, Tuesdays at 10 p.m.). "When Curt Hawkins and I split up I knew I couldn't just be a regular guy," Ryder explains. "I needed something to stand out. And it's obvious looking at me, I don't look at all like anybody else." This would be a pretty good time to stand out. WWE newbies like Drew McIntyre and Sheamus are getting a shot at carrying major singles titles as the company looks to find its next "Stone Cold" Steve Austin or The Rock. Ryder has enough on his plate coming from the same island as Mick Foley, which is equivalent to making your own mark as a pianist in the place that produced Billy Joel. But Ryder isn't intimidated. When he marvels about seeing Shawn Michaels take on Razor Ramon live at Madison Square Garden during their classic WrestleMania X ladder match, it has the same spirit as another Garden attendance tale--Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka flying off a cage onto Don Muraco and setting Foley's life path. "It just helps me to work harder," says Ryder of Foley. "To even be compared to someone like Mick Foley is an honor, to even be in the same sentence. So maybe one day eventually when my career is a little farther along there won't be such a difference between Zack Ryder and Mick Foley." Ryder makes sure not to let ambition get in the way of fun, though. It blows his mind that he could be part of a new "Monday Night War" with WWE rival TNA, after wearing out the picture-in-picture on his TV watching the initial skirmish while in elementary school 15 years ago. He swears he's just a big kid who made it, and a recent WWE Magazine survey that ranked him the biggest fan among the wrestlers backs that up. Ryder gives all the credit to his father, Bob Cardona, who took him to all the shows, bought him those T-shirts, paid for wrestling school when many parents would have balked, and to this day plays the proud pop who makes sure everybody knows that his boy, despite being born Matthew Cardona, is Zack Ryder. While Ryder just moved from his hometown to Long Beach so he could step straight from his apartment to the sand, he's still close to those Merrick friends who will get together for the Rumble and guess what number he draws to enter the fray. "I always had friends over, we always put bets on what number would win the Royal Rumble," says Ryder, who doesn't even turn 25 until May. "And this year I know my friends are going to be home watching it, and one of them them is going to pick my number. And I'm going to come out of the curtain and it'll be crazy for them to see me on TV. And it'll be crazy for me out there knowing that I could possibly win the Royal Rumble and go on to WrestleMania." |

It's me...you know...Zack Ryder. I'm constantly being asked about my killer sense of style. I don't wanna bore you with any fashion lingo, so I'll make this quick. I'll give you some much needed advice on how to dress at the club. You can thank me later.
If you want to be taken seriously at any club, you have to dress to impress. Please, no stupid looking "trendy" t-shirts. If you wasted your money on any Affliction or Ed Hardy, cut your losses, and throw them in the trash. Invest in a few long leave button down shirts. I usually pop my collar and leave it unbuttoned, but I don't recommend that for those who aren't tan and Zacked like myself. Sneakers are ok to wear when getting your swell on at the gym. However, they are not acceptable for the club. Buy some black dress shoes or boots. Ladies love a guy with nice kicks. Any member of the Zack Pack needs to rock the shades. Me? I prefer Prada. If that's out of your price range, buy some bootlegs at the mall. It'll be dark in the club...those dumb broads won't know the difference. You're not goin' to turn any heads unless you've got a headband on. I'd say go to WWEShop.com and buy a Woo Woo Woo one, but they're not available yet. Unreal right? So in the mean time, go to any sporting good store and get one that matches your hot outfit. And don't even bother leaving your house if you've got a stupid fohawk. What are you, The Miz? Do you secretly want to shop at Hot Topic? Enough! Either spike your hair to the ceiling or stay home! Was that simple enough for you? Woo Woo Woo. It's me...Zack Ryder. Did everybody see my match with Christian last week on ECW? If you didn't, you NEED to. I showed the WWE Universe that there is a lot more to Zack Ryder than hot chicks and hair gel. Hopefully, Miss Tiff realized this too and gives me another shot at Captain Charisma. Let's just hope that the ECW Championship is on the line this time.
Last night's ECW was live from the Nassau Coliseum...which is on...LONG ISLAND! Just like I said last night, everybody knows that the only good thing to come out of Long Island is Zack Ryder! I loved seeing all the Woo Woo Woo signs....especially the ones my parents didn't bring. It was a big deal for me to be on the show at the Nassau Coliseum. I've been a die-hard wrestling fan my entire life. I can't even count the number of times I've been at that building to see a wrestling show. I've been to live events, Raws, SmackDowns, Nitros, and Pay-Per-Views in that building. My dad claims that he took me there for WrestleMania 2. I wasn't even two years old then so I'm not sure I believe him. If you watch SummerSlam 2002, you can see me in the first few rows holding up a HBK STILL RULES sign during his comeback match against Triple H. I'm also wearing HBK's old zebra biker hat, zebra arm bands, and heart shaped sunglasses. Don't ask... The Coliseum is also where I had my WWE try out in February 2006. The Major Brothers wrestled there in a dark match in October 2007. Let's not forget that myself and Curt Hawkins won the WWE Tag Team titles there at last year's Great American Bash. I knew I was going to get cheered when I walked through the curtain last night. How did I know? Because I'm the man...duh. It's too bad Shelton Benjamin had to ruin my homecoming. Does he not realize that when he attacked me from behind that he almost ripped my expensive dress shirt? And who hits a man with glasses? C'MON! But it's cool...because what he did was pre-order an exclusive shipment of the Zack Attack. I'm busy...gotta go make a protein shake. And I'm dead serious about that, I'm not just typing that to seem cool. WOO WOO WOO! Welcome to my first blog since being drafted back to ECW. I have decided that I'm going to try to make my blogs more like Q&A sessions. If you have any questions for The Man (me), just send me a message and I'll answer the best questions each week. I'll kick things off by answering the questions that people have been asking me on a daily basis.
WHY DID YOU CUT YOUR HAIR? Once I was drafted to ECW, I knew that I needed a fresh look. All of my boys from Long Island have the same haircut that I do now. The ladies love my new haircut. You want proof of that? The week I cut my hair, I had over 3,000 friend requests on facebook. I only accepted the hot chicks. HOW DO YOU GET SO TAN? Tanning is one of my hobbies. I want to be the tannest guy in any club that I go to. My tanning routine is easy to follow. I spend my mornings at the beach. Long Island beaches are great for picking up ladies. I just flex a little bit and they attack me like seagulls attacking your lunch. Then I drive right to the tanning salon. I listen to some BSB or NKOTB to pass the time. If I feel that I'm not tan enough, I'll lay in my pool for another hour or so. WHAT ARE THE LYRICS TO YOUR AMAZING ENTRANCE MUSIC? Do I not have the best entrance music ever? I LOVE IT!  They return to the ring and Ryder tags in. Ryder with a snap mare and rear chin lock with his knee in Finlay’s back. Finlay with a knee to Ryder but Ryder sends Finlay into the turnbuckles. Finlay and Ryder bang heads and Ryder goes down and Finlay is staggered. Khali tags in and he chops Ryder. Khali with an elbow to Hawkins and then he sends Hawkins into Ryder and he chops Hawkins. Khali with the vertical choke slam on Ryder for the three count.Winner: Great Khali and Finlay After the match, Finlay gives Hawkins the Celtic Cross and Hornswoggle with a frog splash. Then it is time to see some dancing. |

 NEW YORK – Early this morning on the streets of New York City, WWE Superstars Jeff Hardy, Curt Hawkins and Zack Ryder were on hand for the “My9 SmackDown Block Party,” helping to launch SmackDown on MyNetwork TV, tonight at 8/7 CT.
For native New Yorkers Curt Hawkins & Zack Ryder, being back in the Big Apple at a WWE event as Superstars was a welcome change, one that has brought them both full circle. “This is awesome for both of us to be here,” said Hawkins. “To have been at WWE events as fans just a couple of years ago, and now to be up here as WWE Superstars is just mind-blowing.” As for the crowd reaction the duo received when they hit the stage early in the morning, Hawkins shook his head and laughed. “That’s what I would like to call a mixed reaction, but it’s New York, and home or not, New Yorkers are the hardest fans to please.” Ryder echoed his tag team partner’s sentiments. “This is just what it is all about, the fans. Love us or hate us, cheer us or boo us, we have been on the other side of these crowds many times, and for us to come back after making it, no matter the reaction, is just great.” |

The WWE tag team champions make their way to the ring for this non title match. Their opponents are the debuting Colon Brothers team of Carlito & Primo Colon. Before the match we here pre-match thoughts from the Colon brothers. The match gets under way. Hawkins & Ryder work over Carlito for most of the match, Primo finally gets the tag, and comes in the ring quickly with several fast and high paced moves. He hits Hawkins with a cross body from the top but Ryder beaks up the pin. Carlito tags in blindly and knocks Ryder out of the ring. Hawkins goes to work on Primo, but Primo sends Hawkins right into a Backstabber from Carlito and the Colon Brothers pick up the victory.

The Big Show is at ringside for the WWE Championship Scramble qualifying Battle Royal. The Competitors in the ring include Armando Estrada, Super Crazy, Jimmy Wang Yang and several other Smackdown/ECW superstars. The WWE Tag Team Champions make their way to the ring, followed by THE Brian Kendrick with his main man Z and then Vladimir Kozlov. The competitors start the match, and after a short time several men team up to eliminate Kozlov, and finally Big Show stands up and storms the ring. He eliminates Hawkins, Ryder & Super Crazy with one shot.
Later in the night Chavo/Vickie & Bam are in Vickie’s office, Hawkins & Ryder make their way in to tell Vickie "He" [The Undertaker] is here. They leave as Vickie goes out to the ring to apologize. Vickie begins her apology and The Undertaker comes out, things quickly get Heated as The Undertaker isn’t accepting anyone’s apology and La Familia team up to go after the Undertaker, unfortunately they are no match and The Undertaker destroys La Familia. |

When Curt Hawkins and Zack Ryder captured the WWE Tag Team Championship at The Great American Bash, they did more than prove themselves as a winning pair in front of their hometown fans. The Long Island natives made history by becoming the youngest champions to hold tag titles in WWE history.
“What we’ve accomplished is pretty spectacular. I want people out there who are over the age of 23 to stop and reflect on what they were doing at our age, because what have you accomplished? I know Zack Ryder and I are 23 years old and we’re already WWE Tag Team Champions,” said Hawkins. Collectively, Hawkins and Ryder don’t even rack up a half of a century of life experience. They are younger than some of WWE’s most legendary tag champions including seven-time Tag Team Champions Matt and Jeff Hardy. “Curt and I delivered. Everyone who said we couldn’t do it, we proved them wrong. Like Curt said, we’re only 23 years old and we won the gold,” Ryder added. “While we were making history, I looked out into the crowd at Nassau Coliseum I saw people I went to high school with.” WWE Tag Team Champions Hawkins and Ryder believe their lives haven’t changed much since climbing atop SmackDown’s tag team division, because they claim they’ve always been champions, but the gold only solidified their prestige. Now, the tandem plans to continue to set lofty goals for themselves. “Now, we can challenge the World Tag Team Champions, John Cena and Batista, and become the No. 1 tag team in all of the WWE Universe,” Hawkins boasted. |

He says he wanted to talk to them and apologize for last week. They tell him its his business and they don’t need an explanation. They say they’ve got a match and head out.
Hawkins and Ryder make their way to the ring as Hawkins takes on Festus. Festus beats Hawkins and Ryder tries to hit a cheap shot on Jesse but misses, Jesse turns around and Ryder sends him into the ring post. Festus stands in his unaware state in the middle of the ring and Hawkins and Ryder double team him with a DDT. They celebrate as they head to the back. |

 UNIONDALE, N.Y. – After spending months in Edge’s shadow, Curt Hawkins & Zack Ryder finally made a name for themselves – and they did it in big fashion by winning the WWE Tag Team Championship in their own hometown of Long Island, N.Y.
Going into the WWE Tag Team Championship Fatal Four Way, the now-former champions, John Morrison & The Miz, had done a lot of talking in their weekly WWE.com show, “The Dirt Sheet.” The duo claimed they had no competition for their gold, and poked fun at just about anyone and everyone in WWE. But on this night, words were not enough to stop Hawkins & Ryder as the team claimed gold when Hawkins pinned Jesse. Jesse and Festus have been making great strides on SmackDown, with the corn-fed colossus Festus manhandling many an opponent. Despite a valiant effort, they could not find a way to win on this night. And finally, the Belfast brawler Finlay & Hornswoggle had been at odds with The Miz & Morrison for weeks, often the butt of their “Dirt Sheet” jokes. Although they got in some good shots of their own tonight, they could not capitalize at the right moment. With Hawkins & Ryder’s victory, championship gold is once again brought home to “The Family.” |

A video set to romantic music recapped the Edge and Vickie Guerrero relationship and invited viewers to celebrate their love... HIghlights aired from "earlier today" of the Edge and Vickie wedding ceremony. Chavo Guerrero was the best man. The brief footage showed the couple saying the "I do" portion...
In the arena, there were tables, gifts, and a cake set up on the stage. The ring announcer introduced Chavo as the best man. He joined the Edgeheads, Bam Neely, and the wedding planner on the stage. The ring announcer introduced Edge and Vickie. Chavo took the mic and the crowd booed. He put down the mic and led the wedding party in clapping. Chavo read a speech about the couple He said Edge is like the brother he never had. He said Edge is the perfect addition to the family because he has a touch of the Guerrero wild side. He told Vickie not to worry because Edge is a changed man. Chavo said the celebration for Edge winning the WWE Title on Sunday could be bigger than the wedding celebration. Chavo pointed to the big screen that had a WWE Magazine cover that read, "Edge Plays The Game and Wins The WWE Title." Edge proclaimed that it was the happiest day of his life. He made a joke about how much Vickie enjoys action "in more way than one." He said it was time to get the show started. Finlay and Hornswoggle's music played and Edge's expression changed. They walked to the ring for their match as Jim Ross hyped that they would challenge John Morrison and The Miz as part of a four-way tag at the Great American Bash. Edge said Finlay and Hornswoggle cheat every week, but Zach Ryder and Curt Hawkins were too smart for it. He also introduced himself as the special guest referee. Ross and Mick Foley introduced themselves as Edge and his cronies walked to the ring... 1. Zach Ryder and Curt Hawkins beat Finlay and Horwnswoggle in 2:15. Before the match, Edge tossed the shillelagh toward the stage. He was in his tuxedo and the Edgeheads wrestled the match in their tuxes. Foley said he couldn't tell them apart without their names written on their outfits. Ross cracked a joke by pointing out Finlay and noting that Hornswoggle as the little guy. Edge speared Finlay out of nowhere and his cronies capitalized by scoring the pin. Vickie clapped on the stage... After the match, Edge, Ryder, and Hawkins walked back onto the stage. Edge put his coat on and the ring announcer introduced their first dance as husband and wife. A male and female singer performed while the happy couple danced and the wedding party watched. Backstage, Zack Ryder and Curt Hawkins asked Vickie for a revenge match against Jesse and Festus. She agreed. They comforted her by saying she deserves someone better than Edge...
Jesse and Festus vs. Curt Hawkins and Zack Ryder Jesse starts for his team. He follows Hawkins into the corner with an elbow, but gets sent into Ryder's knee soon after. Ryder tags in, but so does Festus! Festus with a Bear-Pawed attack! Side-slam on Ryder, followed by a short-leg clothesline. He misses a splash, and Hawkins and Ryder bail to the outside. they're getting intentionally counted out. Shenanigans are afoot, as it becomes clear when the bell rings what they have in mind. Sure enough, they attack Jesse after the match and then hit a double-spear on Festus. In a move of absolute genius, Jesse then rolls outside and rings the bell! Festus re-animates and destroys the heels. Jesse slides back in and together they dispose of Hawkins and Ryder. Winners: Jesse and Festus Backstage, Edge spoke with the other disgruntled LaFamilia members. He said Vickie has been screwing with all of them. She rolled into the picture and said she would fire anyone who tried to help Edge during his match against Show. She also threatened to fire Edge if he didn't take the match.
